“Monthly Favorites” is the YouTube tag that refuses to die, and for good reason: 1) it’s a great way to share and discover new and thrilling products/tools/snacks/media, and 2) there’s nothing more compelling than knowing what other people find compelling. Before Anything Else is our version of “Monthly Favorites,” and each month we feature a new person with a new perspective. This month’s BAE is Jennifer Outler, StyleHaul’s Head of Marketing & Communications.

May is one of my favorite months, because it signals the start of warm breezes, chilly cocktails, and indulgently long Sundays spent making my way through a tall stack of glossy magazines.

Growing up, I was so obsessed with Vogue, Essence, ELLE, etc., that I’d tear off the covers, rip out the pages, and plaster the most inspirational, aspirational images to my bedroom wall. Strikingly bright, picture-perfect reminders of how beautiful life can be.

The collaging paid off. I worked in print media for 12 years before transitioning to my current gig in digital. And while, yes, these days, there’s significantly less glossy paper in my life, I still get a thrilling jolt of excitement whenever I crack the spine on the latest travel/food/lifestyle/fashion/news/culture rag.

So! While I encourage you to keep reading The Haul from “cover to cover,” I’d also love for you to indulge in the occasional tactile escape that magazines can provide.

These, below, are some of the best magazine moments of May:

  • Zazie Beetz in Wonderland Mag (With a name that cool…)
  • Zoe Kravitz (Love her mom, Lisa Bonet, and love her)
  • Gugu (for Gugu Mbatha-Raw)
  • British Vogue Cover (Tones on tones to die for)
